After a month at Mogul, I thought it would be a good idea to share a bit about what has been happening recently, and what the future holds for our upcoming projects.

Before coming to Mogul, I worked in mix of organizations, ranging from small startups with very informal processes to large organizations with very mature (and sometimes overly complex) processes.  Along the way, one of my big tasks has been project management, and I have been working with the team here to improve our internal knowledge of Agile Project Management, which is a topic I will explore in my next blog post.

Configuration Management

Because of my background in development processes and configuration management, I have been working with the Mogul team to improve our capabilities in several areas, including:

  • Build Management and Version Control / automatic integration of changes into development systems
  • Customer Support (help desk support systems, FAQ / knowledge base systems)
  • Change Control / Issue Tracking (management and reporting of new features and defects)
  • Release Management processes (effective planning and scheduling of upcoming releases, developing product roadmaps and released product change-logs etc)

These process improvements will help us to more effectively plan and manage upcoming project releases, giving us the ability to deliver high quality projects, faster.

Application Developmentmobile

One other area where my background will have a big impact is around application development and third party systems integration .   Mogul has a great background in digital media and responsive design, but until now has not focused upon products such as custom mobile or desktop applications.

My experience over the last 20 years developing applications and managing global teams of application developers brings us capability for both desktop and mobile application projects, and we are already working on new integration projects including Xero.  Mogul will be looking for opportunities in this area in the future, so keep an eye out for some exciting upcoming projects.
