LAUNCHED September 2026
What Autex Acoustics was looking for.
With an extensive, evolving product range and growing international markets, Autex Acoustics wanted more flexibility and more control over their business-critical digital asset.
Autex Acoustics is a global leader in design-focused acoustic products and solutions, producing acoustic screens and panels in a huge range of colours, shapes and designs.
With separate websites and differing product ranges for New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States, Autex wanted to be able to customise each site as required, while sharing common content and avoiding duplicated effort.
It was crucial to make the product range easier to explore and build a simple, fast, and user-friendly site. Instead of just listing individual items, the new design would focus on the materials Autex uses, its commitment to sustainability, and the company’s brand story.
The team at Autex designed a comprehensive collection of web components which could be reused and repurposed in many different forms. Mogul implemented them in a way that gave Autex flexibility and control over page layouts and content.
How we planned.
Mogul and the Autex website project team held a series of workshops and planning sessions to formulate a clear project plan.
There were two key goals from the workshops and planning sessions – stakeholder involvement and to gain an understanding of the detailed scope of work.
Because the websites need to work well in different countries, the workshops were designed to uncover whether customer habits differed by region and how to make the site easy for everyone to use – from architects and interior designers to builders, installers, and internal sales teams.
The planning established the site structure, regional requirements and priorities for the build. Detailed layout and component requirements were developed through Autex’s Figma designs and the subsequent sprint scoping process.
How we delivered.
Starting from detailed Figma concepts and brand guidelines provided by Autex, Mogul brought the designs to life.
Starting from detailed Figma concepts and brand guidelines provided by Autex, Mogul developed a flexible WordPress multisite platform.
We used WordPress with Elementor, a combination the Autex team was already familiar with.
We translated the supplied designs into reusable, editable components, giving the team control over page layouts and content.
Given the scope and detail involved, we divided the build into structured sprints so each stage could be scoped, delivered, reviewed and tested.
Once the New Zealand site was complete, we used it as the starting point for the other regional sites, which Autex then tailored for their markets before launch.
The fun bits
The features.
The build ranged from simple content pieces allowing the product photography to speak for itself, through to more complex interactive features and integrations.
Letting the product lead.
- Autex and their customers value high-quality product photography, so many of the web components are relatively understated to keep the focus on the imagery.
- Depending on the placement of the content, the images needed to be consistent, but also have flexibility if required, so component variations were built to support different content and layout needs.
- There were lots of interesting twists and challenges to solve, including a recurring theme of offsets and asymmetry.
Built for a global audience and an international teams.
- The international sites share some common information, but content such as projects, news, stockists and Autex contacts are all localised.
- Visitors who arrive on another country’s site are offered the option to go to their local site, ensuring they see the right product and contact information.
- Entire pages can be copied to other sites in the group with a single click. Individual components can be cut and pasted between pages or sites with native Elementor features.
The right mix of standard and bespoke elements.
- Some features and designs call for a bit more than Elementor can do by itself. Where standard Elementor features did not meet the requirements, we developed custom widgets.
- Some features required more than Elementor’s standard tools. We developed custom Elementor widgets so these features could remain editable within the page builder and follow the site’s typography, colours and layout rules.
- The most complex bespoke element is an advanced product selector which allows customers to preview thousands of combinations of product options, designs and colours, and save selected combinations as a downloadable file.
Animations and interactions.
- Subtle interactions and animations are sprinkled around the site, but without going overboard and distracting from the core purpose of the content.
- The accessibility media query prefers-reduced-motion is honoured wherever possible, allowing users with motion sensitivity to turn off animations which might make them uncomfortable.
Mix-and-match sample selector.
- Architects, designers and project planners often want physical samples of the products before ordering. A custom-made sample selector presents colours, designs and finishes which can be added to a sample basket for ordering.
- This arrives at Autex in the form of a Hubspot form submission with all the relevant details, allowing the sample request to be routed to the appropriate team for fulfilment.
Instant search results.
- A quick search feature provides instant abbreviated search results, allowing high-priority content such as products to surface immediately.
- A comprehensive, relevance-sorted search results page provides the full search results from across the whole site
