Tumblr – visual microblogging for the young and hip

Do you use Tumblr? Or are you thinking about it? Tumblr can be a good way to share (mostly visual) content to a (largely young and edgy) audience.
If you’re running a business, we certainly wouldn’t recommend a Tumblr blog in place of a ‘proper’ website. It’s more like a Facebook/Twitter/Google+ social network.
Like any kind of marketing, you really need to know your audience and use the right tools to reach them. For what it’s worth, here’s my broad sweeping generalisations of who is using what:
- Tumblr – hip, creative young people
- LinkedIn – ambitious professionals
- Google+ – business and tech geeks
- Twitter – PR and narcissists (celebrities, of course, are included here)
- Facebook – the masses
Interestingly, the Occupy Movement’s slogan “We are the 99 percent” came from a Tumblr blog. (http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/10/we-are-the-99-percent-creators)
Some businesses have embraced Tumblr. This is a good article with some Tumblr success stories…
