As a business owner or marketing manager who is considering online marketing you may find yourself very confused by all the options available to you.

Everyone you talk to will have their own preferred marketing channel which works for them, but that does not mean they will work for your business.

We hear a lot about the importance of being found on Google and all the reasons why you should be doing an Adwords or SEO campaign. While being found on Google is important, these campaigns can often be very expensive and take several months before you see any significant return on your investment. A good place to start which I always recommend to those who are new to online marketing is Facebook advertising.

Facebook advertising offers many benefits over other marketing channels. Over 1.4 billion people use Facebook around the world and more than half of them use it daily. Facebook advertising is easy to set up. All you need to know is the general demographics, geographics, likes and interests of your target audience and provide some collateral. Compared with other marketing channels such as Adwords you can spend as little as $5 per day and Facebook will display your ads to hundreds if not thousands of people who match your target audience.

What can you do with Facebook Advertising?
You can achieve almost any business goal with Facebook Advertising, from increasing traffic to your website, promoting your Facebook page, running a competition or promoting an event. Just select your campaign objective from the list when you create your campaign.

How much does it cost?
Facebook advertising works off a Cost-Per-Click and Cost-Per-Impression auction billing system. You can either have Facebook set your bids automatically or you can manually set your own bids. We recommend starting off between $5 and $20 per day depending on your industry and target audience.

Advertising on Instagram
Facebook also allows you to display your Facebook ads on Instagram as long as they meet Instagram’s ad criteria. This allows greater reach for your ads with Instagram having an additional 500 million online users to market to. Like Facebook’s ads, Instagram’s ads support images, video and carousel ads which can be set up and monitored from your Facebook account.

Facebook Tracking
Facebook Pixel is Facebook’s own analytical tracking service so you can see how your ads are performing and what visitors are doing on your website. Once you have set up Facebook Pixel in your ad management console Facebook will give you a snippert of code which you (or your web developer) will need to add to your website code.
