Tell us a bit about your background, where did you work before you found Mogul?
Prior to working at Mogul, I studied at EIT for four years – completing a Bachelor of Visual Arts & Design, with further studies into web & multimedia development which I finished earlier this year. As only a few months ago I was a student at EIT, my role at Mogul is my first “real” job, so it has been a huge learning experience – not only in terms of the role itself, but also in simply learning how things work in a business like Mogul!
How long have you been at Mogul now?
I’ve been at Mogul for about 5 months – my role is graduate designer, though I always find it difficult to explain concisely what exactly I do here, as the job involves such a range of different projects and tasks! Typically, my job involves designing & building website templates and other design related tasks – this could creating graphics for a website, styling a website, designing social media assets or something else entirely!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
There’s so many things – the variety of tasks the role involves, the crazy amount of learning I’m doing as I work, the amazingly talented people I get to work with and learn from on a daily basis – but I think the most rewarding part of the role at the moment is seeing just how much my skills have improved in the short time that I have been here. With each new project, I know more than I did with the last, and I am so excited to continue exploring my potential as a designer and front-end developer.
To you, what is the best thing about living and working in Hawke’s Bay?
To begin with, it’s simply the familiarity of the place – I’ve lived in Hawke’s Bay my whole life, I grew up here and have my family living close by, so it made sense to start building my career here. But on top of that I’ve never been a fan of big cities, I’m drawn to the quiet, relaxed lifestyle that Hawke’s Bay has to offer. There’s a whole lot of beauty and inspiration around here – I’m not the kind of person who ventures outdoors very often, but on the odd occasion that I do go outside, it’s hard not to notice how lucky I am to live in this part of the country.
Lastly, If someone was thinking of moving to the Bay, what advice would you give them?
What are you waiting for? In the Bay, finding the perfect balance between work and fun comes easily, career goals can be achieved while still maintaining the lifestyle that you love. Don’t pass up the opportunities that are waiting for you here!
